Bo is having a tough time grasping the Earth Day thing today. Every time I say "happy Earth Day" she thinks I'm saying "happy birthday." I keep telling her her birthday isn't until July but what in the world does "July" mean when you're 2?
To celebrate Mama Nature's big day anyway, we went for a long walk and collected fallen sticks along the way. Then we went home and made pinwheels using the sticks and yesterday's newspaper (I'm not done reading today's yet).
We're going to bring a couple of them to Magpie's doctor today (she has her six month checkup this afternoon) since pinwheels are the symbol of the big Our Kids: Our Business campaign going on right now in Spokaloo to raise awareness about child abuse.
So, here's to you Mama Nature and to keeping all kids loved and safe.
Beautiful!
My daughters and I made pinwheels on Earth Day this year. On a morning walk, we collected sticks. Then we glued several sheets of newspaper together (a single sheet would have been too flimsy) and basically followed the rest of the directions above.
They didn't spin great because of the imperfect nature of the sticks, but they came out OK.

I still have my "Extinct is Forever" Earth Day Shirt from 1990! It always gets comments when I wear it. We made them in school and sold them to raise money to plant trees on campus.
