Welcome to Penny Carnival, a blog about cooking, crafts, kids, and striving to live more creatively and simply. Penny Carnival is written by me, Megan Cooley, a writer and teacher living in Cambridge, Mass. (although we'll be relocating to a small farm in Washington state soon).
Stop by for craft tutorials, recipes, and ramblings. Mostly, I'm just trying to live more like my Nana did--and to love up my girls, "Bo" (age 12) and "Magpie" (age 10). I met my husband ("J") when we were camp counselors at age 18, but it took us a decade, a breakup, 3,000 miles, and a gin and tonic to get hitched in 2002.
Penny Carnival began in March 2008. It is named for the penny carnivals that my babysitter Amy used to host in our garage when I was a kid. She would set up bean bag tosses, magic 8 ball readings, and arts-and-craft booths, and then invite the neighborhood children to play for a penny per station. She'd also trek us through the nearby forest for adventures she called "Camp Kiddie Joy." Thank you, Amy, for not plopping us in front of Fraggle Rock all day. May all childhoods be as wonder-full.
This recap of life events provides a solid background on who we are.
